Maggie’s “flu like symptoms” kicked in yesterday afternoon. They aren’t terrible or overwhelming but she definitely feels run down and generally bad. These symptoms of malaise are likely the result of the Neulasta shot that Chris administered Tuesday evening. It’s a good and bad thing, really. It’s bad because it makes her feel bad. But it’s good because it means that the Neulasta is doing it’s job – dramatically ramping up her white blood cell count. Without this help, Maggie’s immune system would be desecrated by the poisons that she was given on Monday leaving her susceptible to infections that would normally bounce right off a person with a healthy immune system. So, in the heart wrenching conundrum that is cancer, it’s good that she’s feeling bad.
