Off To Another Colonoscopy

Today we finally have the colonoscopy we’ve been waiting on for a week.  As a family, we’ve been preparing together, drinking the not-terribly unpleasant laxatives, starving ourselves, and churning through toilet paper - all quite unpleasant.  Maggie, as has been her modus operandi since the beginning when it comes to drinking lots of fluids, lost nearly all of the intial, most-powerful course of laxatives due to being overcome with nausea.  Chris told her she was cheating for having it come out of the wrong end.  That girl just can’t keep liquids down!  Prepping for the first colonoscopy in the hospital she lost most of it.  Prepping for her last two CT scans (including the one at MD Anderson) she lost the barium.  This time, too.  Is this part of The Cancer?  It doesn’t seem like it should be since they removed all the blockages they found during her initial surgery.  Entertaining the thought of her having another cancerous blockage isn’t a very pleasant thought but we should certainly know more later today.

The plan is to head to the out-patient endoscopy center at 11:30.  Her procedure starts at 12:30 but we don’t know how long it will last.  They intend to remove some of the polyps from her colon so it will, in that sense, be an actual surgery.  Other than that this will be a true exploration of the rest of her colon.  The first attempt back in January was truncated by the cancerous blockage they removed during surgery so they’ve never actually explored past the first 18” or so.  Chris is hoping that they’ll find smooth sailing and be pleasantly surprised at the lack of any more polyps!

She’ll be under light sedation so Chris expects the rest of the day following the procedure to be made up of lots of TV watching and naps.  Chris also hopes it includes a meal but that’s Maggie’s call, depending on how she’s feeling.  Oh, and I guess what the doctor’s say, too.

As soon as we return back from the procedure Chris will post updates here.
